A Christmas update

Most of you know that Dan had to go in for emergency surgery on the 19th. For those of you who don't, Dan wasn't feeling good Tuesday night and was having a lot of stomach pain. He called his doctor Wednesday morning and by the grace of God, they told him to come in at 11 am. The doctor took a look at his stomach and sent him right over to the surgeon's office. She saw him by noon and by 1 pm he was being admitted to the hospital. He was wheeled into the OR at 4:30 pm. He had a strangulated hernia that had also gotten infected and was basically eating its way through his belly button. Dan spent the night in the hospital hooked up to a lot of antibiotics and was discharged Thursday afternoon. It was a bit stressful having everything happen so quickly, but God held us in His hands that day and everything that needed to happen got done and got done quickly. We are very grateful for all of our wonderful parents and all of our friends that were supporting us.
We had a minor setback on Friday when we wound up back in the doctor's office because an infection was starting to form in the incision. To spare everyone the gory details, Dan had to put up with some painful measures to drain the incision and we have some extra care we need to take at home to make sure the incision stays clean. Dan is doing much better now and is on the slow road to recovery. He looks a little better everyday and is able to get around on his own more and more.
While this wasn't the way we intended to spend our Christmas, we are grateful because this could have happened at a much worse time than this. We feel blessed to have the support system that we have in all of our family and friends. We may not get the chance to see everyone this Christmas, but we love you all and wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Max does not like snow no matter how many times Dan takes him out in it.

A busy weekend

We had a busy weekend this past weekend. We celebrated a friend's wedding and we also went to The Melting Pot to celebrate Dad's 50th birthday. It was a nice weekend spent with friends and family.

At Rob and Stephanie's wedding in Brown's Point.
We love The Melting Pot.

IT'S A GIRL!!!!

We had our 20 week ultrasound and found out ~ we are having a little girl! Right now, she is about 10 oz. and around 6.5 inches long (from head to rump). Here are some pictures from the ultrasound. Enjoy!

This one confirms that she is indeed a little girl!

This is the 3-D picture that makes her look like a little alien.

A little foot

These are more 3-d shots. She has her hand on her forehead.

She is covering her face and waving in this picture.

The ultrasound tech took a lot of pics! She is looking right at the "camera" .
This is a head profile shot.

Almost done, I promise! She is covering her eyes in this one.

And finally, we were able to catch a big yawn!

6 weeks old

We went to the doctor to confirm and they ran a few blood tests and did an ultrasound at 6 weeks. This is what our little bean looked like then. It is just the little blob, but even at 6 weeks we could see and hear the heart beating. It was the size of a grain of rice at this picture.

It's official!

Once I got back from Boston, the jet lag didn't seem to go away. I noticed I didn't feel too good the last day or two there, but I figured it was lack of sleep and being on the go. When I flew back, I was up for 24 hours that day so I knew it would take some time to recover. I got back on Monday night and when I still wasn't feeling very good on Thursday, I decided to find out for sure. I took a pregnancy test Thursday night and it was positive! I took another one Friday morning (just to be sure) and sure enough - same result. Here is the proof!

Boston

I went to visit my cousin in Boston in June. I left on the 20th and came back on the 25th. It was a great visit with Holly and Matt and Boston was a beautiful city. Although Dan and I were "trying", we didn't think I was actually pregnant when I left on the trip.

This picture was the last picture taken of me before I found out I was pregnant. This is Holly and I at Cheers in Boston. Although we didn't know it, our little bean got to visit Boston too!
