A Christmas update

Most of you know that Dan had to go in for emergency surgery on the 19th. For those of you who don't, Dan wasn't feeling good Tuesday night and was having a lot of stomach pain. He called his doctor Wednesday morning and by the grace of God, they told him to come in at 11 am. The doctor took a look at his stomach and sent him right over to the surgeon's office. She saw him by noon and by 1 pm he was being admitted to the hospital. He was wheeled into the OR at 4:30 pm. He had a strangulated hernia that had also gotten infected and was basically eating its way through his belly button. Dan spent the night in the hospital hooked up to a lot of antibiotics and was discharged Thursday afternoon. It was a bit stressful having everything happen so quickly, but God held us in His hands that day and everything that needed to happen got done and got done quickly. We are very grateful for all of our wonderful parents and all of our friends that were supporting us.
We had a minor setback on Friday when we wound up back in the doctor's office because an infection was starting to form in the incision. To spare everyone the gory details, Dan had to put up with some painful measures to drain the incision and we have some extra care we need to take at home to make sure the incision stays clean. Dan is doing much better now and is on the slow road to recovery. He looks a little better everyday and is able to get around on his own more and more.
While this wasn't the way we intended to spend our Christmas, we are grateful because this could have happened at a much worse time than this. We feel blessed to have the support system that we have in all of our family and friends. We may not get the chance to see everyone this Christmas, but we love you all and wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! (The belly was right around 28 weeks here).

Our first snow of the season.

Max does not like snow no matter how many times Dan takes him out in it.
